We have a new cook at home. He is talented but his only problem is that he is irregular. 'Why didn't you come yesterday?' I asked him few weeks ago. 'I had a party with my friends. We all got drunk & had a terrible hangover. So, I couldn't make it,' he said. I looked at him, dumbstruck. I didn't know how to react to his brutally honest reply. Then I burst out laughing. 'I appreciate your honesty,' I told him. Last Saturday, he bunked again. 'Where had you vanished?' I asked. 'There was an event. They promised me Rs. 4000 for few hours of work. So, I couldn't miss that opportunity,' he told. Anybody else would have lied or given me lame excuses that he was sick or someone died in his house. But this guy has to tell the truth always. He is flawed but he is honest. He may not be regular but he is too good at his work, puts his heart & soul while he cooks. So, inspite of his irregularity we still like him & want him around for a long time to come. Bottomline-You may not be perfect, nobody is. But if you are honest & can build trust with people/colleagues around you, you will become a valuable asset inspite of your weaknesses. The No.1 quality people often underestimate is integrity. Come what may, be genuine, be yourself & the world will recognise you!
